BOMBER COMMAND AIRFIELDS TOUR (VR)

Lincolnshire was the home of the RAF during WW2 and remains so today.

It is a place steeped in military aviation history since before WW1 and is where the three main Australian RAAF designated squadrons – 460, 463 and 467 operating with Bomber Command were based – 455 Squadron also operated in Lincolnshire for a short period of time.

Many Australian airmen also operated in mixed nationality crews within RAF squadrons in Lincolnshire – including 617 Squadron, “The Dambusters”.

Our Bomber Command Airfields Tour takes us over many historic RAF Lincolnshire airfields where we can see first-hand where Australian Airmen served – a number of airfields remaining in military operation, some still distinctive though predominantly returned to agriculture and others now used in part for private recreational flying, preserving their WW2 heritage.

In addition, a few airfields have been specially reconfigured digitally to recreate the way they would have looked during WW2.

Your visit will include a personal 30 minute guided presentation reflecting on Bomber Command, including commentary on Fighter Command and Coastal Command and the importance of Australian Airmen who served in Britain during the 1940s. This will be followed by our VR Tour which is a useful tool to help better understand the heritage of this period and  to and see first hand the place where Australians lived and flew

The VR flight itself will last around 40 minutes – overall it is probably best to allow around 1.5 hours for your visit, from arrival to departure – the idea is for the overall heritage presentation and experience to be relaxed, informative and enjoyable.

Visitors have the choice to be be flown as a passenger in VR mode or to take control of the controls themselves –  or alternatively for those who may find flying in VR difficult or uncomfortable, we can still complete the tour in a non-immersive environment, where you can simply sit back and enjoy the journey.

An accompanying partner or parent may also watch on throughout the visit.
